I like long-distance running. Usually I run at least two to three days a week if there is not a special occasion. It is not that I liked long-distance running since my childhood. When it comes to short-distance running, I was pretty good at. This is, I guess, because I played food ball all the time back then. However, long-distance running was not my thing.
Two years serving in Navy changed my preference for long-distance running. As you might know well, running is involved in everything in boot camp. Run to eat, run to wash and run to sleep etc. I had to run all the time. Among a lot of kinds of running for specific purpose, 3km or 5km of long distance running was special because Korean famous snack, Choco Pie was a prize on a first come, first served basis. At this point, you might think that who would do stupid running just to get some snack. However, the power of the Choco Pie, when you are at drill and feel hunger every time, is beyond just some snack. Therefore, I ran to death all the time and luckily managed to win the Choco Pie. Every day of running long distance desperately for 2 month got me used to it and gave me confidence.

| ▲ This was my last running in Navy(The west coast of Korea in 2011) |
After finishing training and moving in Navy unit where I will live for the next two years, I applied this running desperately to football. My predecessors liked me and thereby I could spend my time in Navy more comfortably.
At that time, there was one predecessor. He was respected by both of other predecessors and junior men. I also really liked him and try to learn from him. He was very smart, strong and was in justice. Even now that I thought back at the time, he is still considered as a great guy.
The very next day, when I asked him to run together and ran again, my legs got injured due to running too hard. Just as old saying goes, If a crow-tit tries to walk like a stork, he will break his legs.
One day I ran together with him around the military camp. How fast he was! Even before I passed through the point which was not far from the starting point, I lost him. With me being good at running long distance, I felt that my pride was hurt.
From this embarrassing experience, I set a goal to run 10km distance with him at similar pace and try to practice every day. before he finished his duration of military. Even though I never accomplished that goa, this practice left me behind the habit running regularly some distance up until now.
